IAGDM to Celebrate NAIW Week
NAIW Week Observance with the Insurance Association of Greater Des Moines, Inc Speaker: Susan Ballard, Former CIA Member
“Recognizing Opportunities” NAIW Week: May 16-22, 2010 will be a week of celebration for National Association of Insurance Women, Inc. Over 320 local associations, representing members from across the United States and 9 other countries will take part in various activities to commemorate the organizations’ seventy years of service to the insurance industry. The celebration has been a tradition since 1965 and highlights the importance NAIW places on providing professional education, an environment in which to build business alliances and the opportunity to make connections with people of differing career paths and levels of experience within the insurance industry.
Speaker: Susan Ballard, Former Member of the Central Intelligence AgencySusan Ballard was recruited in 1969 by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for a position at their Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Her career with the CIA covered 28 years and spanned numerous interesting assignments, including working in Chile, in the Agency’s Intelligence Operations Center and being a Program Manager for a Satellite Imagery Program.
She currently volunteers in the Playroom at Blank Children’s Hospital, serves on the Board of Directors at Blank and is involved with Hospital Clowning Program at both Blank and University of Iowa Hospitals. She also serves as a Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church of Grimes and is President of her T.T.T. Chapter. Susan was recently selected by Lite 104.1 radio as one of the “Outstanding Women You Should Know” in the greater Des Moines area and featured in their magazine.
She grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and attended Business College after high school. Susan and husband, Tom, enjoy various outdoor activities including biking, skiing, sailing and fly fishing. They also enjoy traveling and recently went to Vietnam to visit locations where Tom served as an Infantry Officer with the 1st Marine Division.
