IAGDM members support our communities by sponsoring and participating in a number of community events and projects including:

Dress for Success Des Moines:
Members donate work appropriate attire for women ranging from suits, blouses, shoes, purses to jewelry. All the items a woman needs to dress for a job interview. Dress for Success Des Moines was established to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing work attire, skills and support to help the women thrive in work and life. To learn more, please visit their website at www.dressforsuccess.org

Des Moines Area Religious Council:
Members donated diapers and baby wipes as a way to support the needy families and children of the metro area. Due to cuts in support from other sources, the need for these items has grown. DMARC has 12 pantry distribution sites, each supporting more than 1,300 infants up to 2 years of age through this program. To learn more, please visit their website at www.dmreligious.org

Food Pantry:
IAGDM supports the local food pantries by holding food drives. Lists of desired items are distributed prior to the drive each year. Members bring food items or cash to our regular meeting and donations are taken to an area food pantry.

Other Projects:

Animal Rescue League:
A list of items needed by the local rescue league was distributed to members.  They were asked to bring items to a meeting so the speaker from the Animal Rescue League to take the donations with him.

Meals from the Heartland:
Monetary donations were accepted from members to be donated.  Speaker was presented with donation.

Mitten Tree:
At our winter meetings we have collected mittens, scarves, hats and gloves to donate to Des Moines and Perry public schools. These items were distributed to students in need during the cold winter months.

Partners in Literacy:
In past years, IAGDM has supported the Partners in Literacy campaign by collecting books and money to donate to school libraries at two Des Moines metro schools. The schools provided lists of desired books and titles needed.

Iowa Public Television Festival Week:
IAGDM has previously signed up to work during the IPTV Telethon. Members would volunteer on a Saturday morning to answer phones and take donations.
