Mission and Purpose:
The purpose of this association is to serve its members by providing professional education, an environment in which to build business alliances, and the opportunity to make connections with people of differing career paths and levels of experience in the insurance industry. To accomplish this purpose, IAGDM promotes education by offering industry related speakers at meetings, presenting courses developed by the National Association of Insurance Women (International) (NAIW) and guiding members to earn industry recognized professional designations. IAGDM supports the professional advancement of its members by providing leadership development and personal growth opportunities. Fellowship within the Association is cultivated and loyalty to the industry is strengthened. IAGDM promotes membership in NAIW and provides an environment in which to build industry alliances. IAGDM is one of 320 local associations affiliated with NAIW. NAIW has over 10,000 members in nine (9) regions. Iowa is in Region V with Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. IAGDM is one of three (3) Iowa associations along with Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities. IAGDM was organized June 5, 1940 and was formerly known as the Insurance Women of Des Moines, Inc. The National Association of Insurance Women (International) (NAIW) is the association of choice for many insurance professionals dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry. Leadership Development: Publications and programs are offered to improve self-confidence and leadership capabilities. Fellowship and Networking:
Dinner meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month. These meetings feature informative speakers and the exchange of ideas with others in the insurance industry. Opportunities to expand fellowship beyond the local level are offered at annual Iowa State Council meetings, Region V Conferences and the National Convention. Member Benefits:
